Kai was born and raised in LA, to a French-Tunisian father and Mexican-American mother, and thus was surrounded with a mixture of different cultures and customs.
At the age of 14, he began expressing a passion for art on the streets of Los Angeles. Four years later he went on to continue this passion by accepting an offering to study at the California Institute of Arts and Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris. His time in France gave him much inspiration, teaching him about discipline and technique, and how to respect art as a way of life.
After attending L’Ecole des Beaux Arts in Paris and the California Institute of Arts, Kai created his signature character ‘If’, which stands for “imaginary friend”. It can now be found in every single piece of Kai’s latest works. “If” is a character of no colour, no sex or race, no physical/distinguishable traits which breaks all societal stereotypes and cultural divides.
Kai’s inspiration for “If” was to create a character that everyone can relate to, and thus help communicate to the universe issues that tie cultures together, such as love, money, time, happiness, success and the environment.
