Sage Barnes is a self-taught, urban artist who combines abstract, realistic, abstract and street art techniques to achieve a very a distinctive style. His main focus is using contrast and representational art, pairing opposing mediums and themes and working with various mediums including conventional acrylic paint, artificial flowers, stucco and foam. Layering is also a common motif.
Barnes was born in 1995 in St. Joseph, Missouri, and developed a passion for painting and illustrating at an early age. He studied for a time at the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising in Los Angeles but dropped out to pursue his career as an artist , believing that his individuality as an artist would be smothered by a formal art education.
He has showcased his work in multiple cites across the United States, notably ‘Identity’, and ‘Look Alive’, his solo shows at Guy Hepner Gallery, New York., and has attracted the attention of several celebrity art collectors. He has also collaborated with fashion brand Boda Skins and coffee chain Joe & The Juice to host a pop-up gallery and live painting sessions during Art Basel 2017.
