Annabel Faustin

Biography

Annabel Faustin’s work reads like a modern tale. Through the travels of her giant women, painted to represent islands or mountains, the artist invents a new Eden in which the human being and nature live in total harmony. In her worlds, one seems to live eternally, suspended in time, in a moment of wonder.

Born in Toulon in the South of France, Faustin graduated from the École Estienne in 2013. Initially working as a designer for luxury brands, she felt out of place in this fast-paced environment. Desiring a space of calm, she began painting her sleeping characters. Soon, she noticed the positive impact her work was having on both herself and the people around her.

Fascinated by the soothing chiaroscuro of Georges de la Tour and the shimmering colours of the Fauvist painters, with whom she shares the same love of the incandescent landscapes of the South of France, Annabel’s paintings celebrate light and shadow. The artist’s vibrant shades of blue and orange immerse us in her mystical universe, so that when we leave one of her paintings, we wish to stare at the sky rather than our smartphone.

Through the travels of these giant women, sometimes islands, sometimes mountains, the artist invents a new Eden in which the human being and nature live in total harmony.

Fascinated by the soothing chiaroscuro of Georges de la Tour and by the shimmering colours of the fauvist painters with whom she shares the same fascination for the incandescent landscapes of the South of France, Annabel’s painting evolves towards more and more contrasts between light and shadow. The result is the creation of a world without temporality where one seems to live eternally a moment of wonder suspended in time. The vibrant shades of blue and orange contribute to immerse us in this mystical universe.

Annabel’s paintings aim to share with us the state of grace of these female figures in front of nature and that when we leave the painting, we want to stare at the sky rather than our smartphone.
