Nola (Yellow)
Initially appearing in the walls of New Orleans, Nola is a tribute to the devastating Hurricane Katrina of 2005. Created as a device to protect, Banksy switches the original purpose of the umbrella and transforms it into the cause of the girl’s deluge. Such alteration highlights the inability of governmental institutions to protect and help the citizens from such disasters.
Initially published in 2008 as a limited edition of 289 signed prints of white rain on a light grey background, Banksy later released a grey rain variation of 63 signed prints, orange rain of 32 prints and yellow rain of 31 signed prints. Additionally, the 66 signed AP come in 6 colourways with an average sale price of +200% above the original version.
