"It is tough to find a silveback gorilla high up in the volcanoes in Rwanda in the right setting. After ten trips without any luck, some of the guides and the lead ranger suggested the Umubano Gorilla Family far west of the group of volcanoes. It was a 90-minute uphill climb until we finally reached the wall, and I could immediately tell the rainforest above had potential and more place to breathe.
I left most of my gear with the porters and took only my trusted 58mm lens camera to be able to stay nimble. When we reached the troop, they were on the move and I focused on the lead Silverback. It was then that I got my moment with the exact perspective and depth I was looking for.
This certainly was a team effort, and I want to thank the team that looked after me on the journey".
