"Mana Pools on the Zimbabwe side of the Zambezi is an alluringly raw wildlife experience without glamorous camps or many visitors. The luscious greenery in Mana Pools after the rainy season was such an illustrious assistant that I felt the pressure to perform. We focused on one pool and one enormous hippo, but just couldn't get close enough. Plan A was to work with 25 feet extension poles, but it proved fruitless. For Plan B in the early morning, I managed to crawl within 15 yards of the hippo, and she surfaced and mock-charged me, it all came together perfectly".
