Geoffrey Bouillot
ARTIST STATEMENT
"My work explores the boundary between human and machine, between the organic and the industrial. Through an aesthetic inspired by the mechanical world, I deconstruct pop culture icons, transforming them into assemblages of metallic forms, as if they were products of an assembly line or an automated system. And yet, each painting is entirely handmade, emphasizing the paradox of an artwork that imitates the coldness of mass production while being the result of a human gesture.
I question our relationship with standardized images, endlessly reproduced and reinterpreted. Are we still looking at figures imbued with authenticity, or are we merely facing mass-produced objects, stripped of their original essence? This tension between the handmade and industrialization, between emotion and mechanical repetition, is at the core of my artistic approach.
The series created for Maddox Gallery—Pixel Pursuit, Monopoly Dreams, Strings of Deception, Clockwork Romance, and Synthetic Sweetness—deepens this reflection by portraying emblematic characters, no longer as the heroes of our childhood, but as reconstructed artifacts, consumer objects whose mechanisms are exposed."
