Helen Beard

Helen Beard (British, b. 1971) is a contemporary artist known for her bold, vibrant depictions of intimacy and human connection. Using a distinctive palette of bright, saturated colours, her work transforms figurative compositions into abstract, dynamic forms. Helen Beard paintings celebrate desire, empowerment, and the beauty of the human body, merging fine art with elements of Pop Art and abstraction. Celebrated internationally, Helen Beard has exhibited at major institutions and collaborated on projects that challenge perceptions of sensuality in art. Her striking use of colour and form creates a powerful visual language that is instantly recognisable.

Biography

"Eroticism is a life force of creativity, it’s what creates us all."

Helen Beard’s artistic journey began at Bournemouth and Poole College of Art and Design, laying a strong foundation before she embarked on a fifteen‐year career in the film industry. Over time, her creative vision evolved into a celebration of the erotic experience—a dynamic interplay of movement and colour. Using a rich palette and innovative perspectives, she accentuates intimate acts with sinuous brush strokes that evoke the tender caress of skin, infusing her work with energy and celebrating the joy of sexuality from a distinctly female gaze.

Her breakthrough came in 2018 when Damien Hirst acquired her first collection in its entirety—a milestone that was quickly followed by a sold-out exhibition in London in 2019. Since then, Helen has been a regular presence on the European art scene. Her first solo European exhibition, ‘The Desire Path’ at Reflex in Amsterdam, not only sold out but was also accompanied by a limited-edition monograph surveying her evolving work.

In 2020, her compelling imagery was showcased on the facade of Flannels on Oxford Street in London in a collaboration with W1 Curates. The momentum continued in 2022 when she co-curated the influential exhibition Sensitive Content at UNIT in London alongside art historians Alayo Akinkugbe and Maria Elena Buszek, featuring works by notable artists such as Betty Tompkins, Penny Slinger, Pussy Riot, and Renee Cox.

Expanding her creative footprint further in 2023, Folie à Plusieurs crafted a bespoke limited-edition perfume, Entwined Adventures, inspired by her personal journals from a transformative trip to New York and Chicago. She also collaborated with the renowned Japanese fashion company BEAMS, underscoring her versatility as an artist.

Recent exhibitions include solo shows at Paul Stolper Gallery in London and Sonder Gallery in California, while a selection of her work currently graces the walls of Artworks Advisory in Singapore. Looking ahead, Helen is set to embark on an exciting new chapter with a residency and exhibition with Istanbul’ 74 in April 2025.
