"This picture is an extremely lucky one. The spit of sand on the image only appears on Bantham beach near low tide, and with a long lens the waves are quite pronounced behind it. I knew the timing and angle would be critical.
Sunrise and low tide were just after 6 am, meaning a cold and early start. The only angle that would work was for me to be lying in the shallow sea water in front of the spit, getting wet in temperatures barely above freezing.
There’s moment like this one, when everything falls into place and the end result is perfect and unrepeatable. We were wrapped before 90% of the nation was even awake - our lunch was everyone else’s breakfast".
