About the work
Goodfellas
David Yarrow:
"I have long been drawn to gangster films, the director Martin Scorsese being one of my great inspirations. Chicago is the home of the mobster and I was determined to capture the mood of the Al Capone and Prohibition era in a single frame. I wanted the location to substantiate the narrative, and decided upon the restaurant Bruna's in the old Italian Neighbourhood in Chicago, where thousands of Italians used to live in the 1920s and 1930s. Bruna’s is famous for its owner, who had allegedly fatally knifed a couple of customers during her tenure. Her portrait still holds court in the dining area. The current owner, Luciano from Siena, was willing to cooperate in exchange for some cash and if he could be an extra in the image. Both requests seemed reasonable, besides historical precedent suggests this was no place to argue with the patrons".
