François Bonnel: The Geometry of Joy

4 June – 3 July 2026

About the EXHIBITION

Through ‘The Geometry of Joy,’ French artist François Bonnel transforms balance, simplicity and joy into a visual language of colour, rhythm and quiet precision.

After leaving a 25-year career in advertising to devote himself fully to painting, Bonnel brings a refined visual intelligence to compositions that feel both organic and gently architectural. Built from seemingly simple elements: blocks of colour, bands, curves, openness and carefully placed forms, his paintings occupy a space between structure and sensation, where geometry meets the contemplative elegance of nature.

For the artist, joy is not decorative. It is disciplined. His work proposes another kind of seriousness, one grounded in restraint, clarity and the act of looking. Colour becomes order. Harmony becomes feeling. Reduction gathers depth.

Bonnel’s pursuit of this visual clarity began with a decisive turn. His decision to leave his former career marked not only a change of profession, but a return to instinct, freedom and creative fulfilment. Guided less by strategy than intuition, his practice searches for a careful relationship between form, colour, movement and feeling.

The works in ‘The Geometry of Joy’ unfold as architectures of emotion. They suggest windows, roads, thresholds and fragments of rooms, yet remain softened by natural cadence and the warmth of the handmade. Often beginning digitally, he tests structure and chromatic relationships before translating them onto canvas, where lines bend, edges breathe and small imperfections become part of the work’s intimacy.

His is minimalism with softness. Composed yet alive, the paintings resist a fixed orientation, allowing each viewer to find their own encounter with the image. Each canvas becomes a place to pause and absorb its subtle sense of order.

‘The Geometry of Joy’ follows another road: one led by beauty, intuition and the daily ritual of seeing. Bonnel turns essential shapes into luminous compositions, allowing lightness to appear as something considered, warm and quietly enduring.
