Dairo Vargas
Biography
"If our memories give us a sense of moving through time, which of them truly define who we are—and what it means to be alive?"
Colombian-born Dairo Vargas is a visual artist living and working in London, England. His work explores feelings and memories, questioning the nature of self through the unfolding narrative of our lives.
Vargas’s signature style—a fusion of abstraction and realism—uses gestural free association to capture the thinking process and encourage introspection. Each painting evokes deeply personal, subconscious memories and emotions, inviting the viewer into an intimate psychological space.
Like memory itself, Vargas’s paintings are constructed in layers. Through fluid brushstrokes, he reveals a process of rebuilding, reconstructing, distorting, and adding information—mirroring the way we recall and reshape our experiences over time.
Community engagement and mental health advocacy are integral to Vargas’s artistic practice. He has established a global network that uses art as a medium for exploring the roots of trauma, fostering healing and connection through creativity.
