Julio Sarramián
Biography
"My work revolves around the idea of landscape and other related concepts, and how we perceive, define and represent them."
Spanish born and currently based in Madrid, Julio Sarramián is an abstract painter creating mesmerising landscapes through the use of oil on linen. Currently undertaking a PhD in Fine Arts at the University of Madrid, Julio additionally holds a degree in Philosophy and Bachelor of Fine Arts. The artist has exhibited across Spain and Internationally across the globe. Furthermore, Julio holds awards from institutions such as Ministry of Culture of Sapin, Madrid City Council, BMW Group and many more.
The artist explores the idea of landscape through the use of intense and bold colours, portrayed in delicate gradients, questioning how we perceive, define and represent them. Studying all angles around the idea of landscapes – philosophical, political, and socioeconomic – Julio focuses on the hold technology has on our society. He seeks to contribute a new way of looking at landscapes, altering the way we reflect on them and ultimately explore new horizons.
His new collection of work, displayed for the first time with Maddox Gallery, investigates the role of technological visual elements in landscapes. Julio pursues the idea of a rupture in landscape, creating a failure or error: a glitch. He thus creates a landscape that is deformed, giving way to an image where errors from the digital world prevail.

THE GLITCHLAND SERIES
The Glitchland project is a pictorial investigation that reinterprets the landscape and its essential characteristics from visual elements related to the digital world and technology. A rupture of the concept of landscape is pursued, establishing the idea of glitch (failure or error) as the conceptual basis of the project.
In this way, a disintegration and deformation of the landscape is made possible, to give way to an image where errors, failures and data from the digital world prevail over its traditional representation.
Glitchland approaches the landscape by exploring the limits of the landscape itself.
