10th Year of Maddox

11 September – 3 October 2025

About the EXHIBITION

Marking its 10th anniversary, Maddox Gallery presents ‘10th Year of Maddox’, a celebration of discovery, dialogue and legacy, and a promise of what lies ahead. More than a retrospective, this exhibition is a threshold: an invitation to step into the chapters that have shaped the past decade, and to glimpse the futures those moments continue to inspire.

For ten years, Maddox has thrived on exploration, introducing new voices, reframing icons, and nurturing unexpected encounters between artists and collectors, whose vision has guided the gallery’s journey as much as the art itself. This exhibition gathers those encounters into a single dialogue, one spoken in many languages: from The Connor Brothers’ sharp text-and-image works, part humour, part truth, layered with irony and sincerity in equal measure, to David Yarrow’s monumental photographs where cinematic drama meets the raw edge of the natural world.

Elsewhere, Dairo Vargas layers memory and movement into emotional landscapes, while KEAN dissolves time into shifting skies of colour. Sam Smyth translates rhythm into geometry, his canvases pulsing with precision and music, works that embody the rigour and discipline Maddox has long championed. Will Martyr transforms architectural form and colour into meditations on desire, escapism and the pursuit of leisure. Together they chart the intangible: memory, light, sound, sensation.

Balancing icon and intimacy, Jessica Brilli’s nostalgic mid-century scenes share the room with Russell Young’s diamond-dusted portraits shimmering with glamour and fragility. Touils brings luminosity to cultural memory; Cooper injects play into the everyday; Nick Grindrod builds depth through layered colour, balancing precision with imperfection; Ross Muir reframes tradition with wit and humanity. Their works speak across genres but resonate in unison: each reveals how art moves between the monumental and the personal, the universal and the intimate.

‘10th Year of Maddox’ marks a beginning within a journey still unfolding. Ten years of colour, imagination, and encounter, ten years of collectors and artists in conversation, ten years of Maddox. And this exhibition reminds us: the story is still being written, with every artist, every collector, and every work that finds its place in the world.
