The Connor Brothers: A Load of Fuss About Fuck All

15 October – 3 November 2021

About the EXHIBITION

Maddox Gallery is proud to present A Load of Fuss About Fuck All, a retrospective exhibition celebrating 10 years of The Connor Brothers and showcasing their largest body of work to date.

Since their inception in 2011, the story behind The Connor Brothers has inspired both awe and intrigue. Known originally by their fictional guise and as twin escapees, Franklyn and Brendan Connor, the duo have become renowned for masterfully blurring the lines between fact and fiction, and for executing their creations with an equal measure of wit.

After lifting the veil in 2014 on their fictitious backstory, the sibling duo famed for escaping a new age American cult called 'The Family', now became widely known as British artists James Golding and Mike Snelle. Whilst not truly siblings, their brotherhood and passion for art has seen them create works in support of both personal and societal issues, and has cemented their position as one of the most sought-after contemporary artistic duos of our generation.

Named sardonically after one of their most iconic hand-finished books, this exhibition brings together the largest body of work created by the duo in celebration of their ten-year anniversary and in the first London gallery takeover in Maddox history. Mapping out the pair's artistic journey across three chapters and within all three gallery locations –– from their popular Pulp Fiction series and True Love Stories to their bastardized oils, lockdown studies and regression series –– A Load of Fuss About Fuck All follows the twists and turns behind the fascinating tale of The Connor Brothers.

ARTIST

The Connor Brothers

The Connor Brothers (British, b. both 1968) are contemporary artists whose practice is connected to Dark Humor Pop Conceptual. Working primarily across painting, prints, editions and works on paper, James Golding and Mike Snelle use wit, fiction and cultural commentary to challenge ideas of truth. Known for their text-based works, activism and public interventions, their practice blends sharp humour with a distinctly contemporary critical edge.
