About Kate Brinkworth

The work of British contemporary artist Kate Brinkworth pulls strongly on her fascination with colour and light, the seductive appeal of vices and the hypnotic language of film. Allegorical by nature, her objects symbolise diverse entities. Elements such as the dice reveal questions of fate, chance and the curveball effect. “Perhaps these objects drew me to them by the very fact that they are caught up in forces larger than themselves,” she explains.

Through her works, Kate plays with colour, oversaturating her paint and increasing the light contrast, creating modern still lifes that are almost baroque in nature. At their core is an attraction to imagery and narrative. It questions how multiple images fit together to form a cohesive plot in the eye of the viewer, and how the viewers themselves bring an element of imagination to their experience.

Based in Birmingham, Brinkworth graduated from Nottingham Trent University in 2000 and has since exhibited both nationally and internationally. Numerous private collections across the world feature her works, including Coca-Cola, Penske and Experian, and she has an ongoing partnership with Winsor & Newton, delivering workshops and lectures.
