Biography
"My work explores unity in contrast. Just as a human portrait consists of different facets and contrasts that form a complete entity, a bouquet brings together diverse flowers and greenery into a harmonious whole. The more nuanced and varied the composition, the more captivating the entirety becomes. In my work, I seek this balance and depth that emerges from the interplay of diverse elements."
A German painter, Moritz Moll graduated in 2021 with a degree in Fine Arts from the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich (AdBK). As an emerging artist, he has exhibited widely across Europe, including recent group shows with Maddox Gallery in London in 2023 and exhibitions in 2024 such as Time Out at Stiftung BC - pro arte in Biberach and Come Outside to Playat Galerie Biesenbach in Cologne. Earlier in 2024, he was featured in Grand Finale, in Maddox Gstaad, which marked another significant milestone in his burgeoning career. This exhibition was Moll’s first solo show with Maddox Gallery, who now represent him exclusively in the UK and Switzerland.
Through the use of oil and acrylics on canvas, Moll captures the intimacy of the mundane, transporting the viewer into quiet yet vibrant daydreams. He balances his subjects between consciousness and a dreamlike state by juxtaposing neutral space with fine lines, allowing the viewer to explore those fleeting everyday spaces where one drifts away, unobserved.
Moll’s work is characterised by a sensitive color palette, with subjects brought to life through layered textures and sketchy brushstrokes applied in swift, loose motions. He examines both the form and materiality of his subjects, playing with two- and three-dimensionality to send his viewers on a subtle yet profound visual excursion.
