About Bibi Lei

Bibi Lei is a Portuguese-Chinese, self-taught artist whose paintings radiate warmth, optimism and a belief in possibility.

Working intuitively, she often paints with her fingers as much as brushes, letting colour and gesture lead the composition. Her canvases feature a recurring cast of bright, childlike girls – playful yet purposeful – moving through imagined worlds like small superheroes of joy, love and friendship.

More than figurative scenes, Lei’s works function as emotional environments, capturing wind, light, music and energy with a sense of anticipation. Raised between Macau and Portugal, and encouraged creatively by her grandmother, she reawakened her practice after moving to Tokyo in 2017.

Lei’s first solo exhibition, 'My Colorful World', was held in Tokyo in 2021, followed by Is the 'World Still Bibi' in Ginza the same year. She joined Maddox for the group exhibition 'Kawaii' (2022) and exhibited with the gallery at 'Art Miami' (2023). For 2026's International Woman's Day, her works featured in the group show 'HER'.
