About Brent Estabrook

Living and working in Los Angeles, the American Contemporary artist Brent Estabrook approaches his meticulous yet playful work with a childlike sense of curiosity and joy. Laying down each thick, richly pigmented brushstroke with attentive patience, he builds up a rich impasto that evokes the fibres of plush fabric, velvet and fleece. “Each time, I look for opportunities to expand my horizons and delve into new artistic territory,” says the artist. “That’s why you’ll find me painting in various styles, ranging from hyper-realism to abstraction and minimalism.”

Born in Arizona and raised in Seattle, Estabrook holds a Bachelor of Studio Arts from the University of Arizona and a Doctorate of Dental Surgery from the University of Louisville. His artistic journey began at dental school. Frustrated by his mounting student debt, he began painting different currencies, scaled up to the size of novelty checks.

His first sale came soon after, enabling him to consider art as a career seriously. Through a series of colourful skull paintings that followed, he developed his signature style of textured brushwork and a vibrant colour palette, with 2015’s ‘Perpetual Recess’ - a series of large-scale oil paintings of cuddly toys - firmly establishing him in the art world.
