About Jerkface

About Jerkface

The anonymous American street artist Jerkface has an air of mystery about him that is not intentional. Reflecting his desire to be shielded from public attention, the Jerkface persona he has cultivated – a riff on the Californian graffiti artist Neck Face - enables him to operate in the shadows while creating art that is eye-popping in its vibrancy.

Internationally renowned for his mischievous reinventions of recognisable pop culture heroes, his works take inspiration from the vivid palette and bold design of the ‘Memphis’ style and use repetition, transparency and geometric abstraction to stir up intense feelings of nostalgia.

Born and raised in Queens, New York, Jerkface’s kaleidoscopic style of art was born on the streets of New York. A graffiti artist in his younger years, today he has murals all over the city, but his route into Contemporary art wasn’t all plain sailing.

After studying graphic design and advertising at the School of Visual Arts, he struggled to break into the conventional world of art exhibitions, choosing instead to curate his own shows in Long Island City, Queens and Crown Heights, Brooklyn. It was a clever move that caught the attention of both fine and street art enthusiasts, enabling him to build a loyal cohort of fans that has grown exponentially to stretch all around the world.
